Ground Floor Gallery
It is, perhaps, the ground floor which best exemplifies the quality of the Museum’s exhibition; entitled From Farm to Factory, the gallery recalls the story of Louth’s industrial development. The story begins with farming and the subsequent development of spin-off industries (including engineering, shoemaking, distilling, brewing, tobacco making, as well as rail and print) and is told in a manner that it accessible to all. A particular aspect to this floor is that most all of the artefacts are on open access and may be inspected closely by visiting members of the public.
The Museum boasts a variety of interesting artefacts most notably a Heinkel bubble car located on the ground floor gallery. The Museum attempts to reflect the social, industrial and cultural life of County Louth and this objective is to be seen in the diverse nature of its collection. The Heinkel was the only car ever made in Ireland, many were assembled but the Heinkel was made in Dundalk.
