Collection Policy

The County Museum collects, records, preserves, interprets and displays the material culture of County Louth and its hinterland. The collection comprises approximately 35,000 artefacts. It is a diverse collection incorporating material relating to the archeology, history, folklife and natural history of the county. Many of the artefacts have been donated by the residents of the county. The recording of the collection is fundamental to the work of the museum. To date over 20,000 artefacts have been input onto a computerised database. Conservation is carried out in the form of cleaning, labeling, packing and storage of artefacts. Facilities for this work include a recently developed workshop, lab, documentation room and stores with environmental controls.
